The Opportunity

We are looking for enthusiastic and talented junior developers to join our Java-oriented backend development team at Valtech Switzerland. If you are eager to grow your skills and contribute to cutting-edge digital solutions, keep reading!

The Position

As a Junior Backend Engineer within our team, you’ll:

Support the design, development, and maintenance of modular, customized software applications under the guidance of experienced engineers.
Collaborate in the architecture, implementation, and debugging of high-performance applications, primarily using Java.
Work with modern development practices, including CI/CD, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and automated testing.
Contribute to Agile project teams responsible for full software development life cycle, from design to production.
Help maintain system documentation and participate in project reviews.
Learn and grow through mentorship, gaining experience with cloud technologies and scalable backend systems.

Qualifications

Junior Backend Engineer Essentials:

A relevant technical education or equivalent experience in computer science, software engineering, or backend development.
Some experience with backend development, ideally in Java, through internships, projects, or academic work.
A basic understanding of modern software architectures and development methodologies.
Eagerness to learn about the Spring ecosystem (e.g., Spring Boot) and Microservices architecture.
Familiarity with tools like Maven, Jenkins, and containerized solutions (Docker) is a plus.
A collaborative mindset, with a willingness to learn from others and grow in a team-oriented environment.
Good communication skills and a proactive attitude toward problem-solving.
Fluency in both English and German is required.
