About the job

Driving the Shift and Sustainability at Scania

Our corporate strategy brings Sustainability to a new ambition level. With our Science Based Targets we are taking a leap in our ambitions on carbon reduction in our operations but also committing to a customer offer with the lowest carbon footprint in the industry. We do this since it is critical to our future success.

Now we will take one step further and decarbonise the upstream emissions and implement circular business for the complete life cycle.

Life cycle assessment (LCA) is an important tool to evaluate environmental footprint within these strategic areas. Scania has built up in-house LCA capability which now will be strengthen further in line with Scania´s higher ambitions within the strategic areas.

Decarbonisation of Supply Chain at R&D

  • A big proportion of the environmental impact can be traced to the raw materials used. There is a need of deep knowledge within LCA aspects related to raw materials – e.g. access to good raw material data, allocation principles and traceability.
  • Design and early concept development will in many cases have a big influence on the environmental impacts on the product´s life cycle. Design choices and material specifications set the main frame in which further decarbonisation actions might be taken. Decisions on the end-of-life strategy also needs to be taken early.
  • Understanding material production processes for metals, plastics or rubber are crucial.
  • Life cycle optimisation actions must be done in collaboration with the purchasing organisation and sometimes in partnership with key suppliers.
  • Decision support that clarifies trade-offs is key. Trade-offs might occur towards cost and different sustainability aspects beyond climate impact.
  • Our responsibility is cross-functional both within R&D and Scania as a whole.

What you will do

As a sustainability expert with focus on LCA you will:

  • Work in a small team that work closely together with focus on sustainability.

Do you fit the profile?

You have theoretical knowledge and practical experience of LCA. You have a relevant university degree at PhD or Master’s level and several years of experience from sustainability work with LCA as a tool. Material production knowledge is an advantage.

You work in a structured and result oriented way. You have analytical skills as well as a curious mindset. It is natural for you to see things in a broad perspective as well as go into the details. To be able to build up a fact base where you will use LCA as the main tool.
