The Position  

Whether it’s on Viaplay or other customer facing channel, the Recommendations Platform team in the Data Science org weaves together personalized content scores from our ML teams with real-time data about the customer context to generate a fresh, always on, and on-point content recommendation experience. As a key member of Viaplay’s personalization ecosystem, you will contribute to the page generation strategy (i.e., how are titles prioritized for every customer), working with the Data Science Leadership team (the VP of Data Science and the Head of Applied Machine Learning) as well as Content and Product orgs. 

You will lead, grow, and coach a team of software developers and set a culture that fosters their professional development. As the team has production-grade services that support the Viaplay experience, you will define metrics and OKRs to drive measured improvements in the recommendation experience and guide the development of service architecture that allows for content recommendation systems to evolve.  

What we are looking for  

You are naturally curious and are unafraid of thinking about problems from what it means for the customer, its implications for how data should be designed and what software development paradigms are most appropriate. As it takes a village to build personalization systems, you think about your work not only in terms of your team’s contributions but also in terms of the overall ecosystem that makes personalization possible. 

  • 5+ years as a senior technical, comfortable with translating technical concepts for less technical audiences while guiding the development process with engineering teams. 
  • Comfortable serving as a technical mentor and is invested in personal development. 
  • Asks questions that not only consider the customer perspective but also the technical implications of new developments. 
  • Interested in experimenting and pushing new ideas and learning from those experiences. 
  • Values the importance of strong operations and maintenance practices of technical stack to ensure consistent system performance. 
  • Experience of working in a cloud environment (e.g., AWS). 
  • Excellent communication skills
