Development and Validation of a Comprehensive CFD Model for Next-Generation Fluid Displacement Pumps
Project description:
Semcon is offering an exciting thesis project in collaboration with VentriLabs, a pioneering medical technology start-up. This project focuses on developing a simulation model for next-generation fluid displacement pumps for clinical systems, such as dialysis and cardiopulmonary bypass machines and ECMO-systems. Utilizing VentriLabs’ patented technology, these pumps ensure gentle, customizable flow of sensitive fluids like blood, without causing harmful mechanical or shear forces.
We invite you to participate in this thesis project aimed at translating and further developing an existing CFD model from Ansys Fluent to an OpenFOAM-based implementation. The goal is to develop a comprehensive simulation model capable of running through the entire pumping cycle, thereby supporting further development and optimization of the technology. This project involves setting up a transient simulation including a robust fluid-structure interaction solver. Experimental data is available for validation of the simulation model.
In partnership with VentriLabs, Semcon will provide technical supervision for the CFD aspects and access to state-of-the-art simulation infrastructure. This thesis project will be conducted at Semcon’s offices in Lindholmen.
