Background
Bodycote’s Katrineholm facility provides advanced surface treatment processes for a wide range of industries. Among these, coatings that combine chemical nickel plating with polymeric layers are used to enhance hardness, corrosion resistance, low friction, wear resistance, and release properties. These coatings can be applied to various metallic materials to extend the service life of components and improve their functional performance.

Project Description
Given the broad applicability of these surface treatments, Bodycote aims to involve a master’s thesis student in evaluating and optimizing process parameters for different metallic materials. The project will focus on systematically implementing various surface treatment parameters and verifying the resulting properties using appropriate characterization and evaluation methods.

Key tasks include:

• Designing and implementing a matrix of surface treatment processes and parameters.
• Performing comparative characterization and property evaluation on treated sample pieces.
• Analyzing results to identify optimal process settings for different material types and applications.

The project will be carried out as a master’s thesis in collaboration with your university and Bodycote Surface treatment unit in Katrineholm, starting in the Winter Term of 2026.

Both an idividual person or two partners can apply for this Master thesis work.
