Background:
This thesis project is part of an ongoing Vinnova project called “e-Safer”. In this project, we are investigating e-scooters as the present use-case for micro mobility to understand the trend in transportation, its safety implications, and the necessary countermeasures to help motorized vehicles safely interact with e-scooterists. The focus of the project is on modelling the interaction between drivers and e-scooterists to support the development and evaluation of intelligent transport systems (ITS) and connected automated vehicles (CAV).
To minimize the collision risk with the e-scooter, we are currently evaluating V2X communication between different objects in an intersection scenario. Where driver might not have seen the e-scooter who might crossing their path. Relevant information needs to be provided to the driver in time to make an informed decision to avoid the collision with the scooter in critical situation. The type of information can vary from audio only or audio+ video warning in the dashboard or in the center stack.
The focus of the thesis is to carry out user survey to understand what info can be given to the driver in case of emergency and where this information should be given. Implement the result of the study in a test vehicle to showcases at the end of the “e-Safer” project for its project partners.
