Background:
We are looking for a student, with an educational background within computer science or similar, to write their master thesis regarding evaluation of static code analyzing tools.
There are a number of tools that does static code analysis. Currently, Magna rely on static code analysis tools like QAC and LDRA, which are primarily designed to detect safety-related issues in automotive applications. These tools are geared towards identifying "unsafe" code elements such as pointers, lengthy functions and multiple return statements, and they all give warnings.
An application that is not safety related from the ground up tends to get too many remarks for these Automotive tools when applied. It would be better to find a static code analyzer tool that find real programming errors in applications without safety requirements.
Purpose:
To evaluate the static code analyzer market and do tests on a real codebase. Once the most suitable tool is identified, the goal is to integrate it into the build system and making it accessible for all or specific software components.
