In this role, you will play a pivotal role by leading a cross-functional team that builds the core features Fishbrain’s anglers rely on.

As an Engineering Manager at Fishbrain, you’ll drive execution, foster team culture, and contribute to both the technical and strategic direction of the broader engineering organization. In this role, you’ll work closely with product managers, designers, and fellow engineering leaders to bring our product vision to life and improve how we build software. Your objective is to create a team environment where people are empowered to do their best work and consistently deliver meaningful value to our users.

What you’ll work on:

• Lead a cross-functional team of engineers to deliver high-impact features that empower anglers, such as interactive maps, forecasting and prediction, and community tools.
• Foster a high-performing team culture focused on trust, ownership, and continuous improvement.
• Provide coaching, feedback, and career development for team members, tailored to individual strengths and company needs.
• Contribute to the technical and strategic direction of the broader engineering organization, in close collaboration with Head of Engineering and other leaders.
• Collaborate with product managers and designers to ensure project goals and scopes are well-shaped and aligned with the product vision and company goals.
• Drive delivery excellence by enabling the team to ship continuous value to users on time and with high quality.
• Work with the team to identify and reduce tech debt, improve performance, and streamline workflows.
• Define and monitor key metrics to continuously evaluate team health, performance, and product impact.
• Hire and retain the best talent in the sea.

What we are fishing for:

• 3+ years of experience leading high-performing, cross-functional software teams in a product-focused environment.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience developing modern software applications in one of the following technology areas:
  • Native mobile development: Have built and maintained production iOS or Android apps using Swift or Kotlin, with deep knowledge of modern frameworks and architectural patterns.
  • Backend development: Have designed and implemented scalable backend services, developed APIs for mobile clients, and managed production-scale databases. Experienced with common backend technologies such as Ruby on Rails and Go.
• Experience designing software systems and guiding architectural decisions to ensure quality and maintainability at scale.
• Thorough knowledge of software engineering best practices (testing, CI/CD, observability, etc) and experience scaling them within a team setting.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with stakeholder management experience.
• Experience in navigating change, driving alignment, and implementing modern software development best practices.
• Experience setting, tracking, and analyzing KPIs and product metrics to inform decisions.
• You’re a quick thinker, get stuff done, have great energy, and thrive in an agile scale-up environment.
• Nice to have:
  • Experience in mapping, GIS, or geographic data
  • Have a passion for fishing, the outdoors, or environmental sustainability.
