Head of Communications, Global Division Transportation & Places

Job Description

We are looking for a Head of Communications who combines sharp strategic thinking with hands-on execution. You will set the direction, bring clarity to complex priorities, and also jump in where needed, whether refining a narrative, solving a practical bottleneck or supporting leaders with timely communication.

This is a role for someone who loves the business side of communications: understanding clients, strengthening offerings, supporting sales, and ensuring communications create real value. You’ll work globally and across functions, navigating the interconnected areas of marketing communications, external communication, internal communication and change.

Transportation & Places is where AFRY shapes the physical environments and mobility systems that keep societies moving. We design and deliver solutions across road and rail, public and commercial buildings, hospitals, airports, sports venues, workplaces and urban environments, combining engineering, architecture, advisory services and cross disciplinary expertise.

Key responsibilities

  • Drive the divisional communications strategy to strengthen alignment, visibility and commercial impact.
  • Partner closely with the Head of Division and leadership teams, offering strategic insight and constructive challenge.
  • Lead, coach and support a talented communications team while remaining ready to contribute hands-on when it matters.
  • Build and maintain consistent narratives across offerings, markets and channels, ensuring clarity and usability for leaders and teams.
  • Shape marketing and sales aligned communications, including campaigns, client-focused content and account-based approaches.
  • Coordinate internal and change communications to support understanding, unity and engagement across countries.
  • Use insights, analytics and digital tools (e.g., CRM/marketing automation, web analytics, AI supported workflows) to guide decisions and continuously improve.

Qualifications

What you bring

  • 10+ years of experience in communications and/or marketing in complex, international settings in a changing environment.
  • Proven managerial experience, with the ability to build clarity, support growth and create a positive team culture.
  • A proactive, grounded, “see-it-fix-it” approach, comfortable moving between strategy and hands-on work, proactively and reactively.
  • Strong multi‑channel communication skills (web, social, PR, IR, crisis, thought leadership, internal communications).
  • Understanding of marketing principles and how communications support sales, client journeys and value creation.
  • Understand and advocate for efficient use of digital tools such as CRM/marketing automation platforms, basic analytics and CMS tools.
  • Excellent English; additional Nordic or European languages are an advantage.
  • A people first, inclusive leadership style that builds trust and positive energy.

What we offer

  • A central role shaping the communications story of a division that influences how societies function, move and grow.
  • A chance to work closely with senior leadership and make a visible, measurable impact on business performance.
  • A collaborative, international environment with colleagues across Europe who value clarity, kindness and accountability.
  • Flexibility in ways of working, with strong Nordic roots and a culture that values work–life balance.
  • The ability to experiment, modernize communication practices and help define what great looks like for the future.
