Polestar Full time Göteborg

Financial Accounting Manager - Nordic

About the job

The Opportunity

We're currently looking for a Financial Accounting Manager to join our Polestar Nordic finance team, to manage the accounting and financial reporting functions across the Nordic region. This role is part of the Nordic management team and reports to the CFO Nordic.

The position is based in Gothenburg, Sweden, with limited travel required. We believe in a hybrid working model, balancing remote and onsite work, recognising the value of both in-person collaboration and focused individual time. What matters most is that people have the time and support to do what needs to be done—and to enjoy doing it, of course.

The Responsibilities
In this role, you will manage our outsourced accounting partner and oversee day-to-day accounting activities, acting as the link between the region, accounting, and controlling teams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing and overseeing accounting operations, including billing, accounts receivable/payable, general ledger, and inventory
  • Leading, reviewing, and approving activities related to the close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in coordination with internal teams (Group Accounting, Tax, etc.)
  • Developing and implementing policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance
  • Preparing and presenting financial statements, reconciliations, reports, and analyses to senior leadership
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and all relevant legal requirements
  • Managing partnerships with external auditors, tax/regulatory authorities, and vendors
  • Driving process improvements and leveraging technology to increase efficiency and accuracy
  • Leading, mentoring, and developing the accounting team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement

The Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and communicates with confidence across all levels. You’ll enjoy diving into accounting queries, resolving complex issues, and responding to questions with a keen eye for detail. This role involves working cross-functionally with internal teams and managing relationships with external stakeholders, so interpersonal skills are key.

Although this isn’t a line management position, we’re seeking someone who brings leadership qualities, who can coordinate effectively and influence outcomes both within the team and externally.

In addition, you’ll need the following:

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Proven experience managing and collaborating across shared service teams, ensuring high-quality performance and effective partnerships
  • Deep knowledge of GAAP/IFRS and financial reporting
  • Experience working in a U.S.-listed company environment, with a strong understanding of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and other regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems; experience with dealership management systems is a plus
