Role Summary

Are you passionate about how humans and intelligent systems can collaborate in complex R&D environments? We are now looking for an Industrial PhD candidate to explore the intersection of artificial intelligence, human factors, and data frameworks — with the aim to shape how domain experts create, understand, and trust AI-augmented systems in vehicle development. You will split your time between academic research and real-world industrial implementation, in close collaboration with experts across embedded systems, data engineering, and user-centered design.

Job Responsibilities

• Conduct applied research within human-centered AI, responsible data frameworks, and decision support

• Translate qualitative insights into technical requirements and scalable design patterns

• Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and product teams in a cross-functional R&D setting

• Publish scientific findings and contribute to knowledge building in both academic and industrial contexts

• Take part in the larger data and AI transformation work at TRATON R&D, influencing future ways of working

Who You Are

  • You bring a rare combination of technical insight and human understanding, and are driven to make AI and data work for real people in complex contexts.
  • You are confident leading conversations across disciplines, and are comfortable in both fieldwork settings and strategic discussions.
  • You have strong communication and storytelling skills, and a natural ability to engage people in co-creation and shared understanding
  • You are proactive, curious, and eager to take ownership – not just of your research, but of how it contributes to broader impact
  • You have an interest in the intersection technology implementation and human factors, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence and data frameworks.
  • You have a background in interdisciplinary fieldwork in industry settings and are confident in employing qualitative research methods and communicating findings to stakeholders.
  • You should have an M.Sc. degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human-Centred Technology, Interactive Media Technology, or a similar field, and hold a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, or Psychology.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds – your unique experience and perspectives is valuable to us.
