Senior Director Program and Alliance Manager

About the job

Take the next step in your career as a Senior Director Project & Alliance Management at Calliditas, a global leader in IgA nephropathy treatment. In the role you will lead their drug projects on a global level and act as Alliance Manager for in-licensed and out-licensed programs.

Calliditas Therapeutics was acquired by Asahi Kasei Corporation in 2024, and you will be joining at an exciting and eventful time, playing a crucial role in the integration process.

Tasks and responsibilities

As Senior Director Project & Alliance Management, you will:

Project Strategy & Leadership

  • Define and lead the integrated project plan, ensuring alignment with product vision, development strategy, and corporate objectives
  • Drive long-term project direction, including milestone planning, scenario analysis, and critical decision points
  • Evaluate key risks and opportunities — scientific, clinical, regulatory, and commercial — to inform portfolio-level prioritization and investment strategies

Project Execution & Risk Management

  • Oversee day-to-day project execution across all functions — from preclinical development to regulatory submission and commercialization — ensuring progress against strategic and operational goals
  • Manage the critical path and key deliverables, proactively identifying bottlenecks and enabling timely resolution through data-driven risk assessments and mitigation strategies
  • Maintain a living risk management framework, with clearly defined risk triggers, ownership, resource implications, and pre-planned contingency actions
  • Monitor project health metrics, including timelines, budget adherence, and FTE/resource utilization, and drive corrective actions to ensure delivery remains on track
  • Ensure transparent, consistent communication across internal and external stakeholders through regular cross-functional meetings, governance forums and executive reporting

Alliance Management

  • Serve as Alliance Manager for partnered programs, ensuring collaborative success and mutual value creation
  • Establish and manage joint governance structures, oversee compliance with contractual obligations, and enable transparent, aligned decision-making
  • Cultivate trust-based relationships with partner organizations, resolving issues constructively and proactively

Additional Responsibilities

  • Act as a senior leader in selected corporate strategic initiatives 
  • Support out licensing efforts and contricute to the evaluation of new in licensing opportunities

Education, Qualifications and Experience

  • Advanced degree (BA/BS/MS/PhD) in Life Sciences, Technical or Scientific discipline
  • Several years of pharmaceutical industry experience, with proven leadership of global multidisciplinary drug-development projects — preferably including smaller pharma environments
  • Deep expertise in project management methodologies applied to drug development (time, cost, quality and risk)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all drug development phases, functions, and processes
  • Demonstrated track record in alliance management with external R&D or commercial partners
  • Fluent in English (oral and written)
  • Exceptional organizational, decision-making, and communication skills
  • Proven ability to motivate teams, drive results, and meet strategic objectives
