    In Range Operations we create optimal preconditions for the business and people to design, develop and manage the IKEA range offer in a connected and optimized IKEA value chain – to deliver growth and enable low cost.  

    Specialist Functions is one of the departments in Range Operations and hosts several assignments connected to specialists. Now the Specialist Functions is diversifying its skills, and we are growing to get even closer to the product range. 

    India Way Forward is a long-term direction to exponentially grow IKEA in India and reach our ambitious goals. It is a joint effort of the full value chain of Inter IKEA and INGKA, brought under one clear direction for India 2030. It focuses on – amongst other things – repositioning the IKEA brand, creating a more relevant local range offer, tackling the challenges of compliance and creating new customer meeting points. 

    We are now building a new team with diverse competence to take the next step in this journey and are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer. 

    In this role you will be reporting to the Compliance and Requirements Manager for Expanding Markets.


    Job description

    As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for:  

    • Develop, adapt and/or update technical product design and solution that meets identified product requirements, business ambitions, customer needs. 
    • Create and/or adapt technical product design using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and 3D modelling programs.   
    • Create, adapt and/or update technical documentation like 2D technical drawings, assembly instructions, assembly time, bill of components and other specifying product documentation.   
    • Initiate product tests and computer simulations to optimize and verify product design and technical solutions.   
    • Collaborating with development partners and manufacturers to ensure solution specifications are met.   
    • Mitigate product risks to secure safe products (all mechanical requirements are covered by the product design) 

    Qualification

    We are looking for a team player, who thrives in an environment where initiative, solving problems and moving topics forward are highly needed.  We believe that you are adaptable to new circumstances and embrace change and moving targets.  

    • We believe that you have a University Degree in Mechanical Engineering as well as theoretical and practical background within Mechanical Engineering. 
    • You have knowledge in mechanical design in terms of drawing technique, geometric dimensioning, tolerancing, simulations and 3D-modelling.  
    • Knowledge using Computer Aided Design (CAD) programs such as SolidWorks. Other programs can be a plus (like CLO and Blender). 
    • You have an interest and desire to learn about new product types and feel comfortable to apply your mechanical design knowledge to product types that you do not have prior experience with. 
    • For this position we highly value great communication skills, the ability to lead yourself, adaptability to moving targets.  
    • You are thriving in working in the unknown, constantly finding solutions and have a passion to make things happen.   
    • You are curious and work together with others to create the best solutions.  
    • IKEA of Sweden is a truly global environment, with colleagues from all over the world and you therefore need to be fluent in English both verbal and written.
