About the job

Ingress:
Scania’s aim is to drive the shift towards a sustainable transport system, creating a world of mobility that is better for business, society and the environment. Scania is one of the leading European manufacturers of heavy‑duty vehicles, with global sales of over 70 000 vehicles and more than 10 000 engines in 2020. Scania is dedicated to keep our position as the leading manufacturer to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector.

Background:
The environmental impacts from public transportation is getting more and more attention. One example is an increased demand for detailed environmental information, coming from bus traffic operators and other stake holders. LCA based information is often requested. At Scania we calculate the environmental impacts from our products with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).

Target:
The outcome shall be a thesis describing the environmental impacts from production of a city bus, based on a Life Cycle Assessment. The technical report that finalise the practice has the aim to spread knowledge around the organisation and serve as a fact base for product development activities as well as supporting marketing and commercial activities.

Assignment:
The main objective of the thesis is to analyse the material composition of a city bus and to build a Cradle-to-Gate model in LCA software GaBi. The student(s) will conduct an extensive investigation of the design of the bus and of the materials used.
