Are you looking for an inspiring career? You just found it.

Getinge Critical Care in Solna is now strengthening our product development organization with a Senior Mechanical Engineer for our new Platform Development team. At Critical Care we develop tomorrow’s intensive care products and equipment, and we are in an intensive period of change and expansion. In this role you will be a key player within our R&D organization and will take an active part in shaping our future products and technical solutions.

The position offers you a great opportunity to make a difference in the architecture of our future products.

About this opportunity

We are developing some of the most advanced ventilators and critical care devices in the world. To continue this vision, we need a senior mechanical engineer to lead the mechanical platform for our future products. We seek an individual with a passion for robust mechanical design, who thrives at the intersection of mechanics, electronics, software, and human-centered design—and is not afraid to get their hands dirty.

Why this role matters

  • Be one of the drivers in our new Platform Development core team.
  • Design, implement, and develop a future-proof, modular mechanical platform for embedded medical devices integrating electronics, software, and UI.
  • Take an active role in a high-performing core team—aligning mechanical, system, manufacturing, and business goals.
  • Drive execution end-to-end—balancing innovation, regulatory demands, manufacturability, cost, and speed-to-market. Make high-impact decisions daily while keeping priorities clear and momentum strong.

Your main responsibilities and tasks will be:

  • Be part of the core team in a groundbreaking development program to ensure the creation of the world's best medical devices.
  • Own the mechanical architecture and detailed design for complex embedded products: enclosures, mechanisms, mounting strategies, thermal management, sealing, biocompatible materials, and EMC-aware mechanical layout.
  • Collaborate closely with electronics, firmware, UX/UI, quality, and manufacturing to achieve seamless integration, ergonomics, serviceability, and reliability.
  • Create and maintain CAD models, detailed drawings, and BOMs in SolidWorks; drive configuration control and design releases.
  • Select materials and processes (injection molding, sheet metal, die casting, machining, additive manufacturing) aligned with durability, regulatory, and supply-chain constraints.
  • Plan and execute V&V for mechanical systems: test strategies, protocols, fixtures, and reports; support environmental and reliability testing (vibration, shock, thermal, humidity).
  • Lead prototyping, pilot builds, and root-cause investigations; work with suppliers to optimize manufacturing and perform process validation.
  • Ensure that methodologies, documentation, and tools are effective, fast, robust, and compliant
  • Hands-on work is essential: build prototypes, run tests, and iterate rapidly on design and manufacturing solutions.

The position is based at our site in Solna but offers the flexibility to work from home when suitable.  The role requires occasional international travel. You will be reporting to the Head of Platform Development in Critical Care.

You will bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree within Mechanical Engineering (or related field).
  • Vast experience in mechanical design and development within highly regulated industries (med-tech, automotive, or high-tech preferred).
  • Deep technical know-how in mechanical engineering for embedded products, collaborating with electronics and software, and designing user-facing interfaces/enclosures.
  • Proven experience with manufacturing: injection molding, sheet metal, die casting, machining, and additive; design-for-assembly and cost optimization.
  • Experience in thermal and EMC-aware mechanical design for embedded systems; sealing and environmental protection (IP ratings).
  • Proficient in verification/validation, test fixtures, environmental/reliability testing, and process validation.
  • Proven success managing both internal and external development partners and suppliers.
  • Hands-on experience with agile methodologies and modern product-development processes.
  • Fluent English. Swedish (or willingness to learn) is an advantage.
  • Exposure to regulated environments (ISO 13485 / FDA 21 CFR 820); risk (ISO 14971), usability (IEC 62366), and device safety standards (e.g., IEC 60601-1) is meritorious.

To succeed in this position, you need to be an entrepreneurial, decisive leader who thrives in fast-paced settings. You turn ambitious ideas into reality, inspire teams, and navigate obstacles to deliver cutting-edge products that save lives.
